  1. pfd light 4 Star Review

Posted by on Sep 29th 2013

appears to be well built -- but you have to physically change the light bulb to switch from blinking or full on not something you will do on the water -- wish there was a place to store the second bulb inside just incase I wanted to

not bright enough to replace a flashlight really

I bought it as a rescue light beacon if the need should ever happen to men- so it will serve its purpose clipped to my pfd

  2. Well made little flashlight 4 Star Review

Overall, this flashlight is worth the price. Simply constructed, very durable, and water tight.

It was smaller than I expected, only about the size of a Pez dispenser. It's a good size to hang on your shoulder, or from the ceiling of a tent. It even comes with a lanyard to make it easy to do this. Backpackers who want to minimize the weight they carry as much as possible will probably like the size, unless they need a real powerful spotlight.

It comes with 2 bulbs: a white "Krypton" bulb and a red LED bulb. As far as I can tell, the Krypton bulb is just a kind of LED bulb.

The white bulb works well if you need something to give off just enough light for you to see whatever is right in front of you, but it's not bright enough to illuminate a path if you're moving. It's clearly not meant for this purpose anyways though, because it doesn't have an ordinary lens. Instead, the bulb is surrounded by a rubber cone that sends the light out in all directions. Some of the other Princeton Tec flashlights have a removable cone with an ordinary lens underneath. This one has just the cone.

The red LED light, which always blinks when on, is good if you want something to make yourself visible to people around you. You could hang it on your backpack if you're bike riding at night, for example.
Apparently, divers hang it on their shoulder when they go under water.

The bulbs are quite difficult to interchange, however. You need pliers to pull a bulb from its housing. So you won't want to have to switch bulbs frequently. Better to just stick to the bulb that you are going to need most often.
